5 Click Creative Memories from 2003

Cast your mind back to 2003… 50 Cent is in da club and Love Actually first became a part of your Christmas traditions. Here in Melbourne, Founder and Creative Director, Darryn Thomas was opening the doors to Click Creative for the first time and has grown us into a full-service boutique Digital Agency over the last 15 years.

5 Click Creative Memories from 2003

As a nostalgic review of 2003 and to remind us that a lot has happened, we have created a list of 5 Click memories from 2003:

1.    Nokia 1100

The Nokia 1100 was the phone of the year. It had an interchangeable ‘Xpress-on’ cover that came in a range of colours, allowing people to personalise their phones. The user could select from 36 pre-installed ringtones or also had the capacity to create 7 of their own to assign to their contacts. The handset had a 400-hour battery life, so there was room for hours of Space Impact and also one of the most memorable games of all time… Snake!

2.    iTunes store launched

Apple realised that there was money to be made from the legal downloading of music, so in 2003 the iTunes Store was launched. This way music consumers wouldn’t be thieves for illegally downloading and artists received fair payment for their work. The iTunes Store gave customers access to over 200,000 songs including some iTunes exclusives and 30-second samples. The songs would cost 99c each and the capacity to burn them to CD or straight onto an unlimited number of iPods.

3.    Final Flight of Concorde

There were only 20 of these supersonic jets ever built and only 14 put into service. The Concorde would get you from Paris to New York in just 3.5hrs, travelling at 2,179 km/h (1,353 mph). This quick flight would cost the princely sum of AU$7,500 one-way. The supersonic passenger jet took its last flight from New York’s JFK airport to London Heathrow on the 24th October 2003.

4.    Finding Nemo

Pixar produced and Disney released, Finding Nemo and it was the 2nd highest grossing film of 2003. It earned US$871 million worldwide, only being beaten by Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Finding Nemo shares the tale of a Clown Fish father searching for his abducted son, throughout the oceans and all the way to Sydney Harbour. There were some famous voices included for these parts, such as Albert Brooks, Ellen DeGeneres and Willem Dafoe.

5.    JJJ Hot 100

No year is complete without finding out the top 100 songs that people loved that year. Triple J’s Hottest 100 top five for 2003 were:

  1. Jet – Are you gonna be my girl?
  2. Outkast – Hey Ya
  3. The White Stripes – Seven Nation Army
  4. Powderfinger – On My Mind
  5. Coldplay – Clocks (Röyksopp Remix)
