What do you do to ensure you get your business card design right? Today, business cards are still one of the most popular introductions of your business. Without one, how will potential clients and partners remember you if you don’t hand them a business card?

We would like to share some tips and tricks on how to make your business card design really stand out!

Simplicity is the key

Your business card is one of the first impressions potential clients have about your business. If you overload it with text, images and other information, chances are your card could be tossed away. To avoid this, keep your business card design simple.

This doesn’t mean you can’t get creative and expressive with your design; in fact, some of the most unique business card designs are also the simplest. Take a look at this business card for a Vancouver yoga centre that rolls up like a yoga mat.

Make good use of the white space

White space refers to the area of the card not covered by any text or images. There are various reasons why whitespace becomes important when designing business cards.

  • Balance – using white space can help balance out elements on the card, making it appear much less cluttered.

  • Style – white space will make your card look elegant and attractive. Think of some of the biggest brands’ logos like Google or HP, which are minimalistic yet, distinctively stylish, so try to apply a similar style when designing your card.

  • Attention – the correct use of the white space will help you drive the recipient’s attention to the most important information; whether it’s your logo or your contact details.

Pay attention to your logo

Your logo is what helps customers connect with your brand. Make sure you give it extra attention while designing your business cards.
A good tip is to dedicate one side of the card entirely to the logo and place all the contact information on the other side of the card.  Take a look at this design we have created for project management company, Neoscape.

Include all the contact details

While it is easy to get caught up with designing a stand-out business card, it is important to remember that its main purpose is to form a relationship with potential client or business partner. Hence, all your contact details need to be accessible and easy to read.
Try this simple layout for your contact information:

  • Name
  • Title
  • Address
  • Phone
  • Email

Always double check

Before printing your creation, make sure you check it once again for all potential typos and mistakes. Don’t be afraid to have someone else check it as well for something you may have missed. Nothing is worse than sending off your design to print and discovering imperfections later.
